What is Photoshop?
For most of us,
Photoshop doesn't need to be explained. It is recognized as a very powerful
program for editing images, designing graphics, and much more. To use technical
terms, Photoshop is primarily a raster graphics editor. It also has limited editing
and rendering capabilities for text or vector graphics, video, and 3D
graphics.
When was
photoshop invented?
In 1987, Thomas
Knoll, a Ph.D. student, began working on a project at the University of
Michigan. His goal was to create a program that would display his grayscale
image on a monochrome display. His first project was called his Unimaginable
Display. His older brother John Knoll, an employee of Industrial Light &
Magic (a film effects company founded by George Lucas), was also enthusiastic
about the project. He convinced Thomas to turn it into a full-fledged image
editing program. The two worked on the project for six months, initially
renaming it Image Pro. Realizing that the name was already taken, Thomas renamed
the program once more to what we know and love: Photoshop.
The effect of photoshop
on computers?
Remember
computers in the early ‘90s? Most people had at-home games like Oregon Trail with barely recognizable
graphics. It's hard to imagine a rudimentary version of Photoshop running on
these computers. In fact, most PCs in the early ‘90s couldn't do it. Photoshop
is one of the first applications to be known as a "killer app". This
meant that the application was very popular and had an impact on hardware
sales. So the desire to run Photoshop drove the sale of better PCs with more
memory. Not at all surprising given how Photoshop has impacted various
industries such as:
- movie
- Advertisement
- Publication
- Mechanical
- Engineering
- Architecture
- Medicine
- Web design
And much
more........
